The subproject "Academic Success of International Students" addresses the challenge of the above-average dropout rates of international students compared to German students. At Justus Liebig University (JLU), which is gradually increasing its proportion of international students, there are also special needs within this diverse group, which the pilot project is aimed at. The goal is to increase the academic success of international students and counteract potential dropouts. Particularly in the initial phase of studies, there is an increasing need for orientation within the German higher education system and for improved academic and social integration.

Specifically, both the group as a whole and at the individual level are considered and supported through the following measures:

  • Expansion of digital counseling and support services that begin before the start of studies to enable rapid integration
  • Professionalization of the Instagram account to increase the visibility of project-based offers for international students and to enable low-threshold contact
  • Conception and implementation of a workshop program for the acquisition and further development of extra-curricular and interdisciplinary key competencies
  • Target group-oriented and individual study coaching online or in person
  • Internal university networking for synergy effects
