The sub-project "Academic Success of International Students" addresses the challenge of above-average dropout rates among international students compared to German students. At Justus Liebig University (JLU), which is gradually increasing the proportion of international students, there are also specific needs within this diverse group, to which the pilot project is tailored. The goal is to improve the academic success of international students and counteract potential dropout rates. Particularly during the initial phase of their studies, there is an increased need for guidance within the German higher education system and for improved academic and social integration.
Specifically, the group as a whole as well as the individual group is considered and supported through the following measures:
- Expansion of digital counselling and support services that begin even before the start of studies, in order to enable rapid integration
- Professionalizing the Instagram account to increase the visibility of project-based opportunities for international students and to facilitate low-threshold contact
- Conception and implementation of a workshop program for the acquisition and further development of non-technical and interdisciplinary key competencies
- Target group-oriented and individual study coaching online or in person
- Internal university networking for synergy effects
