Further development of university didactics

The Higher Education Didactics department at Justus Liebig University Giessen has established itself as a key player in promoting sustainable, innovative, and high-quality teaching. Our goal is to ensure and improve the quality of teaching for the long term, benefiting all students. With a planned realignment, we offer an innovative, subject-specific, and digitalized range of services for all instructors.

The focus is particularly on:

• Digital teaching: New methods and techniques for digital knowledge transfer.
• Tutor qualification: Special programs to support and develop tutors .
• Programs for female professors: Our comprehensive professional development programs in higher education are increasingly aimed at female professors in order to actively involve this previously underrepresented group. We are continuing the work of the Higher Education Didactics Competence Center and developing it further into a service center for higher education didactics. Through strategic networking with innovation projects such as NIDIT (funded by the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education) and HessenHub (funded by the Hessian Ministry of Higher Education, Research and the Arts), and by focusing on female professors, we are continuously expanding our offerings.

We are also further expanding our digital consulting services. Our focus areas are:

• Consulting and further training for teachers
• Integration into teaching-related third-party funding applications
• Increasing reach and appeal to professors
• Development of a certificate program specifically for digital teaching contexts
• Targeted approach to lecturers: With these measures, we are making university teaching at JLU future-proof and making a crucial contribution to the continuous improvement of teaching.
