Art and Life – QuiS_Flex at the Städelschule
The Frankfurt-based University of Fine Arts–Städelschule has become a synonym for successful, contemporary art education and enjoys an excellent reputation worldwide. Since its founding in 1817, the institution has been known for its interdisciplinary approach, its high level of experimentation and its process-oriented way of working. She trains for the international art scene.
Studying art brings with it some special features typical of the subject:
Events – such as exhibition openings or lectures by artists – often take place well outside normal business hours. This can be problematic for students in certain family situations. The international student body requires individual assistance with transactions – such as with German offices. Because the English-speaking university often becomes the center of students' lives, it can happen that contact with the “outside world” loses focus. For many, this leads to disadvantages in language acquisition and general acceptance into society. The Städelschule supports its students in dealing with these challenges with various measures from the QuiS_Flex project “Art and Life”. “Art and Life” aims to improve study conditions for all students: through specific measures and general flexibility.
Flexibility
The time constraints that make up an art degree pose major challenges for students who require supervision. One component of the “Art and Life” project is the offer of part-time study, which offers an individual opportunity to study flexibly and successfully based on the family situation. Elements here include a family-friendly infrastructure, support services and individual adjustments to the course of study.
International art students with knowledge of the local language move more confidently - in authorities, in the city, on the boat dock.
Advice
75%-80% of the students at the Städelschule do not come from Germany. In everyday life, a lack of experience with German institutions leads to situations in which students need assistance. Special advice is offered within the project - for example for students with children or relatives who need to be cared for.
integration
To support the integration of international students, German courses are offered for small groups. In cooperation with the Frankfurt Rowing Club, an offer is being created that enables students to accept club offers at a low threshold. Trips and excursions to various institutions are also carried out.
