Flexible study at Frankfurt UAS

As Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, we see ourselves as a highly international university that embraces diversity. We view flexible study programs as another step towards a diversity-sensitive approach to higher education. Our very diverse student body has highly individual needs. Many of our students work long hours alongside their studies, have children, or care for elderly relatives. The need for alternative teaching and learning concepts, especially online or at times outside the traditional weekly timetable model, is significant. Students with health limitations also often prefer teaching formats other than the rigid, in-person timetable. We also suspect that many potential students don't even consider studying because they believe that full-time, on-campus study would be incompatible with their everyday lives. Here, too, we aim to attract new target groups with more flexible study program options.

As a basis for these flexibility concepts, student surveys and interviews in selected pilot degree programs will be used to identify the specific flexibility needs at Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. In parallel, a university-wide survey of instructors will create an overview of already tested flexibility measures, digital teaching formats, etc., as well as a collection of all advising and support services that generally facilitate studies and help make them more flexible (childcare, etc.). The goal is to publish actionable recommendations for all departments after evaluating all surveys, serving as a guideline for the concrete flexibilization of individual degree programs.
