Pilot project Integrated preparatory studies
The pilot project "Integrated Preparatory Studies " of the Department of Economics aims to develop an integrated preparatory studies program to sustainably promote the transition from school to university. Overall, the Integrated Preparatory Studies program addresses the content-related and methodological dimensions of increased flexibility.
Often, insufficient study skills at the start of studies, especially regarding the perception of courses and self-organized learning, manifest themselves in the further course of studies for many students in a steadily decreasing active participation and increasing absence from the offered courses.
This pilot project aims to improve students' academic readiness through an integrated preparatory program consisting of various modular courses. These preparatory courses will be differentiated into subject-specific and interdisciplinary (i.e., general) offerings. General offerings will primarily focus on self-organization, learning strategies, and social and health-promoting activities, such as integrated preparatory courses on sustainability. Ideally, the preparatory courses will offer the possibility of credit transfer toward subsequent degree programs and will be conducted in cooperation with regional partners.
Due to the substantial transformation of the structures of existing courses in the individual degree programs, the model will be transferable to other departments of the university as well as to other universities.
