More flexibility for students and lecturers
With more than 43,000 students in nearly 160 degree programs, Goethe University Frankfurt is one of Germany's largest universities, offering a very broad range of courses. But the students themselves are just as diverse as the degree programs. Some already have families or are caring for relatives, while others study without any additional responsibilities. Some come straight from school, others have completed vocational training, and some work alongside their studies. Some have parents or relatives who have already attended university, while others have not.
"How can this diversity be integrated into studies and teaching?" is the question the Go_Flex project seeks to answer and develop solutions to. In various disciplines, the project first examines students' needs, desires, and interests regarding flexibility and explores how examination regulations and rules can be adapted to implement these ideas. Learning platforms are being developed that allow students to learn digitally, independently, at their own pace, and in a self-directed manner. Furthermore, study plans are being developed that promote individualized learning paces and enable students to pursue either a fast-paced or more relaxed course of study, depending on their needs
Another goal of the project is to facilitate changes of location. For example, the recognition of academic credits and examination results from semesters abroad or changes of university should be easier in the future. Furthermore, advisory services will be established to give students an overview of the flexible options available.
Go_Flex places a special focus on the start of studies, as this is where the foundation for future academic success is laid. The exciting beginning of university studies is supported with advising and assistance services, such as workshops for acquiring specialist knowledge, writing workshops, and self-study resources for first-year students.
