Topics: Increasing mobility from within Europe, perception and appreciation of diversity, suitable support services for international students

Location: Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences

First goal: To make Europe tangible

Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (h_da) aims to systematically and strategically establish the new mobility formats of the Erasmus+ program 2021-2027, which recognizes the value of short-term stays. By increasing staffing and raising the profile of these new mobility opportunities, we want to reach more students and faculty. This will enable us to enhance the intercultural skills of our university members.

Second goal: Support and guidance for international students

Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (h_da) aims to establish a comprehensive and systematic welcoming culture for international students. Therefore, we are expanding our centralized advising services for international students on non-academic topics. In addition, we are launching a pilot project at the departmental level. To identify suitable and relevant measures, we have decided to prioritize the following in a first phase:

  • Service Point for International Students
  • Welcome days for international first-year students
  • Buddy program – Introduction of a language café
  • Group appointments at the registration office
  • Intensification of contact with the Darmstadt immigration office
  • Improved information and communication channels
  • Housing – Strategic discussions with the housing association; increased cooperation with the housing service of TU Darmstadt in the future

These are evaluated every semester with all stakeholders and amended and/or expanded as needed.
