Game Development for Teaching and Research

LevelUp develops serious games used for knowledge transfer in teaching and learning contexts at universities. The project aims to foster the sustainable acquisition of expertise in serious game development and data literacy. We intend to achieve this by establishing student game workshops at both partner universities. This provides interested students with an attractive opportunity for further education in digital game development and the enhancement of their data literacy skills. Furthermore, collaboration with LevelUp offers instructors the chance to creatively design and sustainably expand their teaching offerings through the playful implementation of learning content.

Good ideas are needed!

In close collaboration with instructors, our team develops the desired learning content into a serious game, such as a playful self-assessment training or a game that playfully implements the content of seminars or lectures. All you need is a good idea – we're happy to support you with the concept and technical implementation! We'd also be pleased to advise you on potential funding opportunities and costs.

In addition to game development, LevelUp also offers free professional development opportunities for students and faculty through annual event series. These include the Summer of Development, organized by LevelUp, and the Winter of Games, held in cooperation with HessenHub@JLU. Through interdisciplinary lectures and workshops, we provide a diverse range of events, enabling you to expand your theoretical and practical knowledge in the areas of game design, game development, gamification, and higher education didactics.

In close collaboration with the teachers, our team implements the desired learning content as a serious game, such as a playful self-assessment training or a game that playfully implements the content of seminars or lectures.

The sustainability of our work is of paramount importance to us, which is why we place great emphasis on thorough and comprehensive documentation. In addition to a project-specific asset database, which is freely available to all interested parties, all stages of our game development are documented according to industry standards and published alongside our game projects.
