Slow down, increase depth
Some first-year students need more support, more input – and more time. The "GettING Started" study program offers them all of this, thus easing the transition from school to university. THM also benefits: Student success is sustainably increased, the number of dropouts decreases, and the currently high standard of education can be maintained.
The "GettING Started" study program variant is a sub-project of "Study at an Adapted Pace" (SaG) and works as follows: By extending the start of studies by two semesters, the pace of study is slowed down in favor of a more intensive exploration of the lecture content. Mandatory supplementary courses raise different levels of knowledge to a uniform standard and strengthen interdisciplinary skills.
Here, they receive support from tutors in small groups. The program also includes an introductory seminar where they practice independence, communication, teamwork, and time management. They also take a mock exam.
Currently, “GettING Started” is offered in six departments at THM:
- Electrical and Information Technology (EI)
- Information Technology-Electrical Engineering-Mechatronics (IEM)
- Mechanical Engineering and Energy Technology (ME)
- Mechanical engineering, mechatronics, materials technology (M)
- Construction (BUILDING)
- Life Science Engineering (LSE)
