PreBachelor program successfully launched at TU Darmstadt

Kick-off event for the preparatory semester for international Bachelor students

On Friday, April 14, 2023, the welcome event for the newly developed PreBachelor pilot program took place at the Technical University of Darmstadt. The first participants of the summer semester 2023 were officially welcomed and then had the opportunity to explore the city center campus.

Innovative pilot project

PreBachelor is an innovative pilot project within the EDUStart project at TU Darmstadt. From 2022 to 2025, an engineering-specific preparatory program for international applicants to bachelor's degree programs will be developed and tested. In addition to intensive and tailored language instruction, international students will be introduced to the new teaching and learning culture of their engineering bachelor's studies, and targeted strengthening of their subject-specific foundations will be facilitated through integration of subject-specific terminology. The research findings from this pilot project are intended to contribute to increasing the academic success of international students at TU Darmstadt.

The PreBachelor program is very well received by the participants.

At the welcome event, the international participants received a detailed welcome at Bleichstraße 2, in the "Welcome and Housing Services" department. Participants who had not yet arrived in Darmstadt joined this part of the event digitally. Together, over coffee and tea, they completed important initial steps, such as setting up access to the Moodle platform, and answered initial questions about the Athene card.

Discovery tour on the city center campus

Afterwards, there was a tour of the city center campus, during which participants visited helpful contact points, such as the International Office in Karo 5, which can be consulted with initial questions, or landmarks like the Old Main Building. Personal insider tips from the PreBachelor team were also shared, such as the somewhat lesser-known reading room in the Prinz-Georg-Garten, where prospective students immediately browsed for new favorite books.

An exciting semester lies ahead

The PreBachelor program has been very well received by the participants, who are looking forward to further events and activities within the program. On Monday, they began their language preparation with a tailored engineering-specific language course, which will provide them with subject-specific German skills. In addition to study skills training, a multimedia preparatory course in mathematics is also offered. Social and cultural events are also an important part of the program. In cooperation with International Student Services and TUtor International, further events for social networking and integration on campus are planned, including excursions, joint activities, and visits.
