PreBachelor starts successfully at TU Darmstadt

Kick-off event for the preparatory semester for international Bachelor students

The welcome event for the newly developed PreBachelor pilot program took place at the Technical University of Darmstadt on Friday, April 14, 2023. The first participants of the 2023 summer semester were officially welcomed and then got to know the city center campus.

Innovative pilot project

PreBachelor is an innovative pilot project of the EDUStart project at TU Darmstadt. From 2022 to 2025, ING-specific study preparation for international applicants for bachelor's degree programs will be developed and tested. In addition to the intensive and tailor-made teaching of specialist languages, the international students are introduced to the new teaching and learning culture for their ING bachelor's degree and are enabled to selectively strengthen technical basics with technical language integration. The research findings from this pilot project are intended to help increase the academic success of international students at TU Darmstadt.

The PreBachelor program has been very positively received by the participants.

At the welcome event, the international participants were welcomed in detail at the “Welcome and Housing Services” department at Bleichstrasse 2. Participants who have not yet arrived in Darmstadt joined digitally for this part. The first important steps were taken together over coffee and tea, such as setting up access to the Moodle platform, and initial questions about the Athene card were answered.

Discovery tour on the city center campus

There was then a tour of the city center campus, during which the participants visited helpful points of contact, such as the International Counter in karo 5, which can be visited if you have any initial questions, or orientation points such as the old main building. Personal insider tips from the PreBachelor team were also presented, such as the somewhat lesser-known reading room in the Prinz-Georg-Garten, where prospective students browsed for their new favorite books.

An exciting semester lies ahead

The PreBachelor program has been very positively received by the participants and they are looking forward to further events and activities as part of the program. On Monday, they began their language preparation in a tailor-made engineering language course that teaches them specialist German skills. In addition to study skills training, a multimedia preliminary course in mathematics is also offered. Social and cultural events are also not neglected. In collaboration with International Student Services and TUtor International, further social networking and integration events are planned on campus. Including excursions, joint activities and sightseeing.
