QuIS in the Higher Education Pact 2026 – 2031

QuIS – Quality and Innovation in Studies and Teaching in Hesse – is entering its next phase together with the 14 Hessian universities.

What does QUIS stand for?

QuiS makes studying in Hesse better and develops ideas for learning and teaching tomorrow. QuiS asks important questions about universities and teaching: How can studying in Hesse be a success for everyone? How can the quality of teaching be improved? And how can educational paths become more permeable with regard to the diverse biographies of students? The individual QuiS projects at the universities in Hesse provide solutions, which are only made possible by the HMWK funding program: QuiS stands for “High quality in studying and teaching, good framework conditions for studying”.

Funding projects

Accompany, advise, empower

The everyday life of today's students is full of challenges: It starts with choosing the right subject and doesn't end with the first fear of exams. Many students also need special support, for example to expand their skills and language skills or to combine their studies with family or work.

QuIS supports projects that empower, advise, and connect school pupils, university students, and young professionals – and provide training for teachers and student tutors. QuIS enables flexible study options and international opportunities. QuIS creates opportunities and improves conditions. The goal of all funded projects is to improve the student success rate and increase permeability within the education system.

Fourteen educational institutions in Hesse – five universities, five universities of applied sciences, three art academies, and one new type of university – are collaborating within the QuIS project on pioneering solutions that will serve as models for the rest of Germany. The program is coordinated by the QuIS Service Center, based in Giessen. An internal platform for all participating institutions – the QuIS Network Universities – facilitates exchange, communication, and knowledge transfer, and ensures the long-term sustainability of the project results.
