Pilot project master’s degree program “Critical Social Work in an International Context”

The pilot project of the Department of Social Work master's program "Critical Social Work in an International Context" aims to open Fulda University to new target groups of students and to greatly expand the intercultural and international experiences for students and therefore for teachers. The flexibility dimension in the foreground is therefore spatial in nature.

For many students, the financial cost of studying abroad exceeds their financial resources. At the same time, international degrees and academic achievements are generally not always easy to recognize.

Using already established partner structures, a master’s degree program “Critical Social Work in an International Context” is being developed. This prospective study program is intended to enable long-term postgraduate students at five locations (UNAM Windhoek, Namibia; SFSU San Francisco, USA; USC Queensland, Australia; UNF, Jacksonville; USA) to study a digitally oriented, English-language master's degree in social work. Tried-and-tested virtual teaching offerings should be used. The advantage for students is that they can work in an international teaching environment without necessarily having to find the financial resources to study abroad. The master's degree program should enable at least 50% of the ECTS to be credited with courses studied at the partner universities. Mutual recognition is agreed between the partner universities. A double degree qualification is also sought. In addition, face-to-face teaching at Fulda University should also be made available to students at the partner universities as a hybrid event.

Through the resulting networks and collaborations, the pilot project has a lasting impact on the internationalization strategy of Fulda University through the virtual mobility concepts developed. The project not only paves the way for international students to enter the German labor market with university degrees acquired in Germany, but also forms the basis for migration of highly qualified people.
