Pilot project Master's program “Critical Social Work in an International Context”

The pilot project of the Department of Social Work, Master's program "Critical Social Work in an International Context," aims to open Fulda University of Applied Sciences to new target groups of students and to significantly expand intercultural and international experiences for students and, consequently, for lecturers. The primary dimension of flexibility is therefore spatial in nature.

The financial burden of studying abroad often exceeds the financial resources of many students. At the same time, international degrees and academic credits are not always easily recognized.

Building on existing partnerships, a Master's program in "Critical Social Work in an International Context" is being developed. This forward-looking program aims to enable postgraduate students at five locations (UNAM Windhoek, Namibia; SFSU San Francisco, USA; USC Queensland, Australia; UNF, Jacksonville, USA) to pursue a digitally oriented, English-language Master's degree in Social Work. Proven virtual learning methods will be utilized. The advantage for students is that they can participate in an international learning environment without necessarily having to invest the financial resources for studying abroad. The Master's program will allow at least 50% of the ECTS credits to be transferred from courses taken at the partner universities. Mutual recognition will be agreed upon between the partner universities. A double degree program is also planned. Furthermore, in-person instruction at Fulda University of Applied Sciences will be offered as a hybrid course to students at the partner universities.

Through the resulting networks and collaborations, the pilot project, with its developed concepts of virtual mobility, has a lasting impact on Fulda University of Applied Sciences' internationalization strategy. The project not only paves the way for international students to enter the German job market with a university degree earned in Germany, but also forms the basis for the migration of highly qualified individuals.
