Pilot project ZDK – certificate for digitization and communication

The starting point of the project idea is the potential at Fulda University of Applied Sciences to work together on an interdisciplinary basis at the level of departments and to specifically include the socially relevant cross-sectional topic of digitalization, which is focused on the university as a research-strong, dynamic University of Applied Science. The development of new teaching formats is
of great importance at Fulda University; internationalization and hybrid formats support the relevance of testing and designing digital forms that enable (production and) reception of teaching and research content regardless of location and thus directly for what is relevant The topic of transfer can be connected. The resources on interdisciplinary topics, which have so far hardly been used,
therefore offer an excellent opportunity to convey and make known subjects beyond the university in an interdisciplinary and digital didactic manner, therefore teachable and also prepared through modern forms of scientific communication as beacons of interdisciplinary teaching practice.

The “Certificate for Digitalization and Communication” (ZDK) project builds on these initial conditions, which develops digitally supported and interdisciplinary teaching on the research subject “communication” and thus enables the intensification and didactic further development of collaborative and cross-disciplinary teaching. The ZDK is a
certificate designed by the two departments of Applied Computer Science and Social and Cultural Sciences, which serves to acquire and deepen technical-digital knowledge on the one hand and communication theoretical and practical knowledge on the other. It includes attending various courses in both departments and a seminar each semester that is specifically
designed for the certificate, in which teachers from both departments work together on a communication-related subject from an interdisciplinary perspective. The certificate results in independent web-based application tasks for digital-communicative tasks by the students, who work together in teams of students from different departments and thus
apply or implement the above-mentioned idea of interdisciplinarity themselves at the student level: The projects are also published on their own website and thus gradually becoming reflective examples of cross-disciplinary cooperation.

The certificate is currently in its first round after one semester - in the project outlined here, the ZDK is to be systematically expanded through expanded resources as the basis of a teaching/learning concept that uses the potential of both departments and bundles the performance of the students in a digital environment. The ZDK should be further developed into the basis of long-term interdisciplinary teaching/learning and research practice at Fulda University on the subject of
digitalization and communication and become the subject of the development of a broadly applicable interdisciplinary digital didactics; The aim of the project is to make the ZDK a resource for digital, interdisciplinary teaching (research) practice that can also be used by other departments
. The focus is on the following questions: How does interdisciplinary teaching on the subject of communication succeed? Which digital instruments are generally suitable for imparting knowledge and communicating within heterogeneous groups? Which teaching tools and formats are particularly suitable for
conveying content from different subject-specific perspectives to co-present students? How can synergies of cooperation be systematically incorporated didactically? Which teaching/learning forms are suitable for the transfer of interdisciplinary student teaching research practice?

On the one hand, the results of the project flow back into the ZDK events as a practice of reflected didactics and, on the other hand, by expanding the digital presence, they are intended to enable scientific exchange on the topics of digitalization, communication and digital didactics that goes beyond the Fulda University of Applied Sciences.
