About QuIS
Quality and innovation in
studies and teaching in Hesse
What is QuIS?
QuIS – Quality and Innovation in Studies and Teaching in Hesse – is the joint network of all 14 Hessian universities. Its goal is to actively develop studies and teaching and to create future-proof solutions for the demands of a changing educational landscape.
QuIS brings together expertise, fosters exchange, and creates space for innovative ideas. Hessian universities work closely with each other and with the Hessian Ministry of Science and Research, Arts and Culture. Together, they generate momentum for modern study conditions and high-quality university teaching.
The focus is on a future-proof course of study that
- Flexible study programs with the best possible quality are made possible,
- supports individual educational biographies and facilitates lifelong learning,
- strengthens the permeability between vocational and academic education,
- Students are offered diverse paths to academic success.
As a competence and exchange platform, QuIS strengthens innovative formats in studies and teaching and contributes to sustainably improving equal opportunities and quality in the Hessian higher education system.
Goals
The measures developed within the QuIS project specifically address the central challenges of university studies and teaching. They are intended to:
- Strengthening equal opportunities and equality in studies
- Facilitating transitions from school to university and between vocational and academic education
- Improve study orientation and increase study success
- strengthening the initial phase of studies and student advising
- Promote internationalization and expand student mobility
- to ensure and continuously improve the quality of teaching
Background & Structure
The QuIS network builds on the successful QuiS funding program, which was financed until the end of 2025 by federal funds from the "Strengthening Studies and Teaching" future contract and initiated by the Hessian state government.
The resulting collaborations and structures will now be sustainably continued and expanded.
The central body is the Commission for Student Success. It forms an important forum for exchange between Hessian universities and the Hessian Ministry of Science and Research, Arts and Culture regarding studies and teaching. Here, current developments are analyzed, needs are identified, and strategic impetus is given for the further development of studies and teaching.
Commission for Academic Success
The commission's work incorporates diverse perspectives: In addition to university leaders and researchers, students and external experts also participate. This collaborative approach results in innovative solutions for a modern, high-performing, and equitable higher education system in Hesse.
The Commission includes:
- the vice presidents for studies and teaching of the 14 Hessian universities
- Students from different types of higher education institutions,
- a representative of the state conference of Hessian university women's and equal opportunities officers
- external teaching experts
- Representatives of the Hessian Ministry of Science and Research, Art and Culture
