Studying diversity – shaping the future in Hesse
Hesse boasts a diverse and high-performing higher education landscape with 14 public universities. Universities, universities of applied sciences, and art and music academies offer a wide range of degree programs, research profiles, and practice-oriented opportunities.
The universities are spread throughout the state and closely networked with business, society, and international partners. They make an important contribution to the development of skilled workers, innovation, and regional development.
The following overview provides an insight into the profiles and special features of the individual universities in the area of studies and teaching and shows the diversity of study and development opportunities in Hesse.

Other networks of Hessian universities
In addition to the QuIS network for promoting quality and innovation in studies and teaching, Hessian universities are strongly connected through other networks to ensure quality in research and digitalization, among other things. These networks facilitate exchange between universities, promote joint projects, and are supported by the Hessian Ministry of Science and Research, Arts and Culture (HMWK).
HessenHub
A consortium of 13 Hessian universities that develops and promotes digital teaching and learning formats and supports teachers.
Studying in Hesse
The network of Hessian student advisory services “Studying in Hesse” pools the expertise of the central student advisory services of all state universities in the state.
Hesse Technical Center
The 6-month study and career orientation program of the five Hessian universities of applied sciences is aimed at female high school graduates (with a vocational diploma) who are interested in STEM subjects.
HAW Hessen
Merger of the Hessian universities of applied sciences (Fachhochschulen) to strengthen teaching, research and transfer.
Universities in Hesse: inclusive!
A network that aims to secure educational opportunities for students with disabilities and chronic illnesses.
LaKoF Hessen
State Conference of Women's and Equal Opportunities Officers – A network that promotes gender-equitable structures at Hessian universities.
NNHH
A platform that promotes sustainability issues at universities and acts as a commission for sustainability in accordance with the Hessian Higher Education Act.
Intrawiki
The QuIS network offers all Hessian universities a platform for exchange and knowledge transfer. It facilitates networking and collaborative project work and ensures the long-term preservation of the results of all QuIS projects.
