The Offenbach University of Art and Design (HfG) continuously works on developing quality assurance measures appropriate for an art school. A key component of this is the qualitative feedback method Teaching Analysis Poll (TAP), developed in collaboration with external experts. Following a pilot phase, the method has now been implemented long-term at various levels and is used in course and departmental TAPs.

The Offenbach University of Art and Design (HfG) continuously works on developing quality assurance measures appropriate for art schools. A key component of this is the qualitative feedback method Teaching Analysis Poll (TAP). The HfG explored this method in collaboration with other art and music academies and further developed its understanding through cooperation with Dr. Sarah Schmidt, head of the Methods Center for Social Sciences at Goethe University Frankfurt. Following a pilot phase, the method has now been implemented long-term at various levels and is used in course-specific and departmental TAPs.
The aim of the measure was to pilot and, if successful, to institutionally anchor the TAP method as a dialogic feedback instrument at the course and department level.
In 2024, a total of 14 TAPs (Teaching Assessment Projects) were conducted in courses, along with several feedback sessions at the departmental level, providing important impetus for further development. This pilot phase was accompanied by intensive discussions within the commission responsible for studies, teaching, and quality assurance. With the adoption of the evaluation regulations in the summer semester of 2025, the TAP was established as a mandatory feedback instrument for long-term instructors, conducted at regular intervals. It is also used in courses initiated by instructors themselves, as well as at the departmental level. The integration of external expertise, established during the pilot phase in collaboration with Dr. Sarah Schmidt, has also proven successful. Students from her social science seminar, "We're TAPing a Course," conduct the TAPs at the HfG (University of Art and Design) as external experts in the subject matter but proficient in the methodology.
This measure led to the long-term establishment of a quality assurance feedback process. The TAP (Task Assessment Process) was successfully transitioned from the pilot phase to regular operation and integrated into everyday student life. While the results of the course-based TAP are confidential and only made available to instructors for the further development of their teaching, the results of department-based TAPs are publicly available within the university and serve as an important basis for the department, as well as for university management and administration.
