The aim of the “Prepare&Start” initiative is to provide targeted support to international prospective and current students during their transition to university studies and to facilitate their entry through suitable offers.

University: Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM)
The Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen offers a Prepare&Start program, combining innovative measures to provide targeted support for international prospective and current students during their initial phase of study. The goal is to make the transition to university studies individualized, transparent, and successful – from initial orientation to sustainable integration into studies and university life.
The programs start early and are interconnected: prospective students can attend lectures before starting their studies, make a well-informed choice of studies and prepare themselves professionally (Pre-Study THM).
Applicants without direct university entrance qualifications prepare specifically for studies at THM. In the study preparation program, they take subject-specific and language courses in order to start their degree program directly after two semesters (Prepare&Start@THMplus).
In addition, a mentoring program strengthens academic success in the sensitive initial phase through personal guidance and professional support (mentoring for international students).
With Pre-Study THM, international prospective students gain early insights into university life. Even before starting their studies, they can attend selected courses, make an informed decision about their studies, and prepare themselves in a targeted way. The program facilitates orientation, strengthens motivation, and creates a solid foundation for a successful start at THM.
With this integrated approach, THM makes a significant contribution to the quality development of studies and teaching: it improves the suitability of study choices, increases the success rates of international students, and promotes equal opportunities and sustainable internationalization. The integration of preparation, access, and support represents an innovative model approach that addresses the diverse educational backgrounds of international students.
