Successful study and career guidance thrives on sound information, authentic insights, and direct exchange with students and companies. QuIS-supported programs accompany prospective and current students in various phases of their educational journey at schools and at TU Darmstadt.
Student Life Cycle: Study orientation and university access, starting studies, specialization phase
Target group: Prospective students, first-year students, current students
University: Technical University Of Darmstadt
The services and initiatives developed from QuIS projects at TU Darmstadt support prospective and current students throughout their student life cycle – from initial study orientation and starting university to career guidance during their studies. By combining analog, digital, and practical formats, these services provide sustainable support for study and career decisions and facilitate the transition from school to university and from university to professional practice. A workshop toolkit, developed from the completed joint project studier_DA between TU Darmstadt and Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, is used during school visits to explain the differences between universities and universities of applied sciences – using Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences and TU Darmstadt as examples. Study content, course structure, teaching methods, and daily student life at both types of institutions are compared to provide students with a sound basis for their study choices. The feedback from participants demonstrates that this service is perceived as helpful: "I now have a better understanding of what distinguishes h_da and TU Darmstadt."
Another successful program is Students@School – providing study information on equal terms, which strengthens the academic orientation of prospective students within a 50-km radius of TU Darmstadt. Student ambassadors visit schools and, as a peer group, offer authentic insights into course content, university life, and the transition from school to university. The program is complemented by interactive presentations with hands-on experiments, campus tours, and support during taster days. Participants particularly value the direct exchange with current students

For digital study orientation, the podcast "fuTUre students" is a key resource, offering guidance to prospective students choosing a course of study. In monthly episodes, students, professors, and other experts discuss degree programs, student life, and topics such as applications, financing studies, and studying with a disability. The episodes are released monthly and are available free of charge as video podcasts on popular streaming platforms like Spotify and, in some cases, on YouTube.
Excursions to companies in various sectors are also organized for students. Company presentations, factory tours, information on fields of activity and entry-level opportunities, networking with employees, and application tips provide practical insights into potential career paths and strengthen the link between studies and professional practice. One participant described the experience with the words: "Getting to know the company from the inside gave the whole thing a face."
Hobit, as an education fair with digital and in-person formats, also contributes to providing guidance to prospective students and enabling direct exchange with students, scientists and advisory services.
