The Hessen-wide follow-up studies project (Hessen-KOAB) is a collaborative project funded by the HMWK, in which the topics of study conditions, study success and the professional follow-up of university graduates are examined on the basis of graduate surveys.
The project examines the composition, heterogeneity and educational pathways of Hessian graduates, as well as their transition from university studies to the labor market and their professional success.

In accordance with Hessian Higher Education Act, universities regularly evaluate the fulfillment of their tasks in studies and teaching. Graduate surveys are frequently used in this context to draw conclusions about study conditions and success, and to examine the transition from university to professional life.
Many Hessian universities participate or have participated in the Cooperative Project on Graduate Studies (KOAB) or conduct their own graduate studies. KOAB is the largest and most successful graduate research project in German-speaking countries. Founded in 2007 as part of a project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, this scientific research project encompasses more than 60 universities nationwide. Using a jointly developed survey instrument, they interview approximately 70,000 female university graduates annually about their career paths. Coordination is handled by the Institute for Applied Statistics (ISTAT).

Within the framework of Hessen-KOAB 1.0, comprehensive analyses (for example, on the use of skills in the workplace, see figure) have already been carried out based on all Hessian universities.
