The University of Kassel aims to expand access to academic education, particularly for those who are the first in their family to attend university. In addition to facilitating university access, the focus is on ensuring students successfully navigate their studies: they should be empowered to orient themselves within university life, organize their studies independently, and learn responsibly. At the same time, they receive support in addressing any challenges or difficulties they may encounter.
Subject-specific educational coaching is aimed particularly at these target groups, but is open to all students. It accompanies them on their individual educational path and supports them in successfully meeting the demands of their studies. In this way, the service contributes to improving academic success. At the same time, educational coaching complements existing counseling and support services.
The educational coaching training is offered to permanent teaching staff for special tasks, academic staff and, in individual cases,
administrative-technical employees of the University of Kassel who want to professionally support students with coaching.
With the completion of the fourth round of the professional development program in 2025, a sustainable and university-wide structure for supporting students was established. Currently, 28 qualified educational coaches are working in departments and central facilities. Regular networking meetings and supervision promote the continuous development of the program. A consistent brand identity and accompanying informational materials increase the visibility and accessibility of the coaching services for students.
Subject-specific educational coaching is permanently established at the University of Kassel under the name 'ProStudium – Coaching for Students'.
