The aim of the “StudyCompass” initiative is to bundle all the advisory and support services offered by Frankfurt UAS throughout the entire student life cycle and to support prospective and current students in all phases of their studies: from initial study orientation to concrete preparation for their chosen course of study – in case of problems during the course of study as well as during the transition to a career.
Student Life Cycle: Study orientation, starting studies, specialization phase and final examination
Target group: Prospective students, first-year students, students, graduates, lecturers and staff at universities
University: Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences
Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences consolidates all its advising and support services related to studies under the umbrella brand StudyCompass . The goal is to provide individualized support to students throughout their entire student life cycle – from choosing a course of study and starting their degree to successfully completing their studies and transitioning into the workforce. StudyCompass is aimed at the university's diverse student body and promotes equal opportunities through needs-based services.
Even before the start of their studies, the university provides support in choosing a course of study. Online self-assessments (OSAs) allow prospective students to explore degree programs interactively. The OSAs help to align expectations and requirements, gain insights into course content and daily student life, and reflect on their own study decision. They also provide information about advising and support services available before and during studies.
The courses offered as part of the preparatory studies help first-year students to prepare optimally and ensure a successful start.
To ensure a successful start to your studies, the university offers numerous preparatory services. These include a comprehensive online information platform as well as workshops and information sessions in the weeks leading up to the start of lectures. These services make it easier for first-year students to find their way around and support them as they begin this new phase of their lives.
Throughout their studies, students participate in various workshops and training programs. The writing and methods workshop provides support for academic writing and research – from structuring academic texts and argumentation to writing style, research methods, data collection, and data analysis.
The Mathand Physics Workshop offers curriculum-based support for degree programs that require mathematical and physical knowledge. Students can refresh their fundamentals, receive individual tutoring, and participate in topic-specific learning sessions. The goal is to strengthen subject-specific and methodological skills.
In addition, StudySkills promotes important key skills for studies and career. Practical workshops cover topics such as communication, presentation skills, teamwork, self-organization, learning strategies, academic writing, literature research, and digital work with AI.
Furthermore, Frankfurt UAS supports multilingual students through the heritage language program of its Language Center. Students can specifically develop their heritage languages and expand their academic and professional language skills. The program views multilingualism as a valuable resource and promotes its use in studies and professional life.
